Half-space problem for a non-linear system of ODEs
Abstract: In this talk we consider a half-space problem for a special non-linear system of n ordinary differential equations, with n unknown functions (depending on x). The study of this system is motivated by the discrete Boltzmann equation (DBE), but is of interest also in other applications. We assume that our solution tends to a stationary point (Maxwellian for the DBE) at infinity and that the solution is partially known for x=0 (complete absorption at the wall). The number of conditions on the assigned data at x=0 needed for existence of a unique solution is found. We intend to present the mathematical proof, that is based on contraction mapping arguments, and only briefly adress the applications. Possible extensions to discrete versions of some quantum kinetic equations will also be mentioned.
